安吉拉·法格林, 博士学位, is the new Associate Vice President for Faculty at University of Utah Health. Fagerlin has served as Chair of the University of Utah Intermountain Health Department of Population Health Sciences at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine since 2014.

In her work as inaugural chair of that department, Fagerlin has recruited a remarkable faculty, who have drawn significant and rapidly growing support from federal granting agencies to conduct peer-reviewed scientific research and publish hundreds of impactful scientific works each year. Dr. Fagerlin is a driving force for advancing faculty and 工作人员 in their careers and for equality and justice in health care for all individuals regardless of socioeconomic status, 比赛, 种族, 性别认同, 或性. She has shown dedication to the department and broader institutional efforts to advance representation in science and eliminate barriers that impede career 进步 and successful work-life integration.

She works tirelessly to support faculty and their teams to pursue excellence in the department’s missions of research, 教育, and community impact. Dr. Fagerlin has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the success of faculty, 工作人员, and students by creating an environment and culture where all employees are meaningfully engaged and have equal opportunity to succeed.

作为学院副总裁, Fagerlin will work closely with health science deans, 部门的椅子, 教员, administrative 工作人员, and leadership across U of U Health to facilitate faculty recruitment, 招聘, 任命, 进步, and career development; interpret and maintain policy related to faculty; and provide faculty development resources. She will act as an advisor to the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and play an important role in strategic planning and future policy directions regarding faculty.

A first-generation college student, Fagerlin studied psychology and literature at Hope College in Holland, 密歇根. She received her 博士学位 in experimental psychology at Kent State University, Ohio. She is internationally renowned for her research in risk communication and shared decision-making. Her research focuses on making medical information accessible to all patients and to helping guide patients to make medical decisions that best reflect their values and goals of care. She has published nearly 300 articles and received competitive research funding from the NIH, NCI, NSF, VA, PCORI, the American Heart Association, and the European Union.

Fagerlin succeeds Robert Fujinami, 博士学位, who currently serves as AVP for Faculty and will retire at the end of the academic year. “We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Fujinami for his remarkable leadership in many different roles over the years,” Good says. “He completes a remarkable career both as scientist and as a leader in supporting our talented faculty. He has built a strong foundation that ensures U of U Health will continue to draw and advance top talent under Dr. Fagerlin’s leadership.”
